The Full Story
Hi, I’m Emily — special education teacher, disability advocate, middle child, and Disney enthusiast.
I created Figment & Facts to share stories, resources, and real-life insights at the intersection of education, disability, and inclusive adventure. Whether you’re a parent navigating IEP meetings, a teacher supporting diverse learners, or a family planning a magical (and accessible!) Disney trip, you’re in the right place.
👩🏫 My Background
I’ve spent over a decade working in special education, supporting students with a wide range of needs — from academic challenges to emotional regulation and beyond. My passion for this work is deeply personal: I’m a proud middle child in a family that includes two siblings with developmental disabilities. Growing up, I often found myself in the role of translator, advocate, and gentle disruptor — skills I now use every day in the classroom.
In my teaching career, I’ve written IEPs, led teams, and created inclusive spaces where students feel safe, seen, and celebrated. Outside the classroom, I focus on accessibility, advocacy, and supporting families who are just trying to figure it all out.
🎢 Why Disney?
Figment has always been one of my favorite Disney characters — full of imagination and heart. Disney has become a joyful escape for my family, especially for my sister who uses a power chair. We’ve learned the ins and outs of DAS, park accessibility, and what it really means to make magic inclusive for everyone.
