If you're planning a Disney vacation and someone in your group has a disability, Disney's Disability Access Service (DAS) can be a total game-changer. As a special education teacher and big sister to two siblings with disabilities, I’ve navigated the DAS system at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World — and I’ve learned what works, what doesn’t, and how to make the most of this service.

In this post, I’m breaking down exactly how to use Disney’s DAS like a pro — with practical tips, answers to common questions, and a few tricks to save time and stress.

What is DAS?

DAS stands for Disability Access Service, and it’s designed for guests who have difficulty tolerating extended waits in a traditional queue due to a disability. DAS doesn’t get you to the front of the line — but it lets you wait outside the line and return later with a return time, similar to a virtual queue.

Step 1: Register Ahead of Time

As of 2024, you can register online before your trip via Disney’s DAS Advance system: - Go to the official Disney website (Disney World or Disneyland) - Click on “Help & Rules” → “Guests with Disabilities” - Schedule a live video chat (the guest must be present) - If approved, DAS is added to the guest’s account for the length of the trip. Pro Tip: Register 30 days before your visit and schedule early in the morning — chat wait times can be long.

Step 2: Link Your DAS to the My Disney Experience App

Once approved, DAS will appear in your My Disney Experience (or Disneyland) app. This lets you: - See your linked party members - Book DAS return times right from your phone - Use Genie+ or Lightning Lanes alongside DAS (yes, you can stack them!)

Step 3: Use DAS Return Times Like a Strategy Game

Here’s how it works: 1. Open the app and find a ride with a long wait time. 2. Click “Request DAS Return Time.” 3. Come back any time after the return time (no rush!). 4. While you wait, grab food, shop, take a break, or ride a short queue attraction. You can only hold one DAS return time at a time, but once you scan in, you can book your next one.

Insider Tips from a DAS Regular

- You can use DAS + Genie+ together. DAS is for accessibility; Genie+ is a paid service. Combine them to maximize access. - You don’t need a formal diagnosis to qualify — Disney bases DAS on needs, not labels. - DAS is valid for the length of your ticket or annual pass — no need to re-register during the same trip. - Break up long days with quiet spaces, mobile order food, and rest time — DAS helps, but Disney is still a marathon!

What DAS Is Not

Just to be clear: DAS is not a “front of the line” pass. It’s not a replacement for Genie+ or Lightning Lane. You cannot book multiple return times at once (unless using Genie+ separately).

Final Thoughts

Disney’s DAS is one of the most inclusive services I’ve ever used in a theme park. With a little planning, some flexibility, and these pro tips, you can make magic happen for every member of your family — no matter their needs.

Got a question about DAS? Drop it in the comments or send me a message — I’m always happy to help fellow Disney-loving families navigate the magic.
